The Enjoyable Way to Teach and Learn Languages
MUZZY, originally developed by the BBC, is the most respected world language course for beginners and young learners in the world. Used by beginners through early intermediate learners of all ages from preschool through adults, MUZZY is successful for millions of students and teachers in 50 states and 96 countries. MUZZY's multimedia, user-friendly approach makes it possible for classroom teachers and even volunteers to introduce a world language program.
MUZZY is designed in accordance with U.S. national foreign language standards that are similar to many other European nations and Canada. Language is presented by immersion and progressively through stages of content, starting with an emphasis on oral participation. MUZZY offers the use of repetition and "spiraling." In MUZZY, words and concepts are first introduced, and then introduced again and again in many new contexts. Role play, i.e., acting out scenes and songs, is an easy and proven successful teaching technique that lends itself beautifully to MUZZY characters and stories. This participatory technique, along with other forms of hands-on learning and thematic orientation, add to students' enjoyment, reinforcement and mastery.
A Course for Beginners of All Ages
MUZZY is used as a core program for PreK-8, able to be implemented by Classroom Teachers as a foundation program, and is also used as the preferred, thematically integrated supplement for Foreign Language and ESL Teachers. In PreK-8 the MUZZY Lesson Plans and Activity Masters are considered helpful and flexible tools, easy to use, already prepared and also helpful to have on hand for Substitute Teachers.
High school grades, colleges and graduate schools of education use MUZZY in introductory language courses and as a methodology model for reinforcement and as a reward. These upper ages typically use the MUZZY Multimedia Course with the teacher's own lesson materials.
Launch or Expand a Language Program Affordably
Use MUZZY as versatile core curriculum or as powerful enrichment material for beginning-level world language and ESOL learning. MUZZY lessons can be used consecutively, for any schedule, frequency and class period length that the school has available. Each Lesson Plan provides both recommended and optional class activities to last anywhere from 15-20 minutes to a full hour period. Repetition and group activities are key. One MUZZY Course Level can last anywhere from one year to three years, depending on frequency of use. Plus, once some of the initial MUZZY story line is introduced to students, MUZZY can also be used out of order for thematic content integration, as a highly adaptive program reflecting the teachers' needs and student ability levels.
Wherever MUZZY goes, be prepared for a very enthusiastic response! MUZZY characters and their adventures often become part of the school's culture. Hallways and rooms are labeled in the target language, MUZZY plays, presentations, parades and theme days are the norm. As is commonly reported, "My students plead for more MUZZY time!"
