Are You Ready for Summer?
School is out, and summer is here! Whether your children are school-age or younger, the slower pace and carefree feeling of summer is a welcome change for all. I can almost hear the chant, "No more pencils! No more books!" hanging in the air. But, even the lazy days of summer offer some great learning opportunities for kids of all ages.
What is your family learning this summer?
Summer is a wonderful time to explore new places and try new things. For children it often doesn't matter if the destination is a far away vacationland, your backyard or anywhere in between. Grab a book on the locale of choice (or Google some information), show your child an online map or just get out there and explore! A day at the beach is a lesson about ocean life. An exploration of your backyard reveals an entire world of insects and plants. A homemade rocketship made out of cardboard and "launched" in your living room is an opportunity to learn about space.
When the summer heat has us indoors, my family will also take up the latest language learning trend, Mandarin Chinese. My children are ages 1 and 3. As they begin Chinese, I'd like to learn a few words myself. Summer feels like the perfect time to start MUZZY Chinese together as a family.
Since Mandarin Chinese is the language of choice for so many families today, I have included a few short audio files of Chinese words below for your family too. More interested in Spanish, French, German or Italian? Take a look at the website - you'll find clips in these languages too!
Happy learning this summer!
Sincerely,
Katie Lagana
